Little Voices: Sign Language for Babies & Toddlers

  • Jonathan Trumbull Library 580 Exeter Road Lebanon, CT, 06249 United States (map)

Registration required for this four week series at the Adult Circulation desk or call the library. Additional sessions will be held on March 14, 21, & 28.

Introducing basic sign language to babies and toddlers can be a helpful way to jump start their communication development.  Children who know how to ask for items they want, make choices, and express their basic needs even before developing verbal speech are at an advantage for acquiring strong language skills and reducing tricky behaviors.  This four-class series offers parents and other caregivers an opportunity to experience the magic of communicating with their little ones at as young as 6 months old.   Participants will learn ways to integrate meaningful growth opportunities into everyday routines and play activities, ensuring fun for kiddos and grown-ups alike!

Content will be:

  • Appropriate for children ages 6 months - 2 years, including those following typical development patterns and those with unique needs

  • Tailored for expectant parents, parents, guardians, grandparents, and other caregivers; applicable for daycare providers and early childhood professionals, too. Adults and children are encouraged to attend together to begin applying learned skills right away; however, adults are also welcome to come learn on their own.

  • Led by Elena Fader Hurlburt, an experienced speech-language pathologist and toddler-mom in the thick of real-life learning!
